This is a number line. The numbers increase from left to right.
So, for any number, everything to the right of it is always greater.

Here is a number line that shows fraction or decimal values.

How do you determine the value of the red dot?
The red dot is between 14 and 15 on the number line so it has a fractional or decimal value.
This means the red dot is 14 +
The number of equal parts from one whole number to the next whole number is the number in the denominator.
This means the red dot is 14 +
The number of equal parts from 14 to the red dot is the number in the numerator.
This means the red dot is 14 +
So the value of the red dot is 143/4 or 14.75.


Example 1:

Choose one or more answers that represent the point in the number line

113/4   11.5   111/2   12   95/2  

The red dot is between 11 and 12 so it has a fractional or decimal value.

11 + ?/?
There are 6 equal parts between 11 and 12 and 6 equal parts between 12 and 13.
11 + ?/6
There are 3 equal parts from 11 to the red dot.
11 + 3/6
So the red dot is 113/6.
Simplify the fraction: 113/6 = 111/2 = 11.5
