Here are some tips for Time Conversion, which aligns with Texas state standards:

Time Conversion

Here are useful units of measure to know

Time
1 minute (min) = 60 seconds (s) 1 year (yr) = 365 days (day)
1 hour (hr) = 60 minutes (min) 1 year (yr) = 12 months (mo)
1 day = 24 hours (hr) 1 year (yr) = 52 weeks (wk)
1 week (wk) = 7 days

Example 1:

Do the following conversions. Round to nearest tenth where necessary.
4 day = hr

We know that there are 24 hours in 1 day so
4 day × = × =  96 hr

So, 4 day = hr

Example 2:

Do the following conversions. Round to nearest tenth where necessary.
36 mo = yr

We know that there are 12 months in a year so
36 mo × = × =  3 yr

So, 36 mo = yr

Example 3:

Do the following conversions. Round to nearest tenth where necessary.
1800 s = hr

To convert seconds to hours, there are multiple steps:   seconds --> minutes --> hours

Step 1:  Convert seconds (s) to minutes (min) by multiplying 1 min / 60 s

1800 s ×
Step 2:  Convert minutes (min) to hours (hr) by multiplying 1 hr / 60 min
1800 s × ×
Step 3:  Solve the equation
1800 s × × =
301800 s × × =
= 0.5 hr

So, 1800 s = hr
