Volume Conversion

Here are useful units of measure to know

Length
Metric System English System
1 liter (L) = 1000 milliliters (mL) 1 tablespoon (tbsp) = 3 teaspoon (tsp)
1 fluid ounce (fl oz) = 2 tablespoon (tbsp)
    1 cup (c) = 8 fluid ounces (fl oz)
    1 pint (pt) = 2 cups (c)
    1 quart (qt) = 2 pints (pt)
    1 gallon (gal) = 4 quarts (qt)

  1 liter (L)  = 202.9 teaspoon (tsp)

Example 1: Unit conversion (English system)

Do the following conversions. Round to nearest tenth where necessary.
48 fl oz = cup

We know that 1 cup (c) = 12 fluid ounces (fl oz) so
48 fl oz × = × =  4 cup

So, 48 fl oz = cup

Example 2: Unit conversion (metric system)

Do the following conversions. Round to nearest tenth where necessary.
7 L = mL

We know that 1 liter (L) = 1000 milliliters (mL) so
7 L × = × =  7000 mL

So, 7 L = mL
