L.A.-Area Adult School Students Receive MathScore.com, High-Tech Math Practice Tool, With Second Chance to Succeed in Math

PALO ALTO, CA -- (MARKET WIRE) -- June 30, 2006 -- Accurate Learning Systems Corporation today announced the Harbor Community Adult School, part of the Los Angeles Unified School District, has adopted MathScore.com to help returning adult students learn math. MathScore.com is an Internet-based, adaptive mathematics practice environment for grade-levels 2-8 which enables self-paced learning.

Many Harbor Community Adult School students are former high school dropouts returning to earn their high school diploma. The primary objective of the Harbor MathScore.com program is to help their students become competent in Algebra I, which would thus enable passing the math portion of the California High School Exit Exam (CAHSEE).

Since previously Algebra I was not a graduation requirement, school districts across California are struggling to help students catch up with the new CAHSEE requirements. In most cases, students who fail in Algebra I do so, due to a lack of a strong mathematical foundation, including skills like multiplication. MathScore.com automatically adjusts to the individual level of the student, from basic number recognition all the way up to the Algebra 1 level.

"We are excited by the prospect of so many adults using MathScore.com to raise their proficiency by several grade levels in months rather than years," explained Steven Yang, founder and CEO of Accurate Learning Systems Corporation. "The MathScore.com interface, while employing 'levels' like most computer games, is results-oriented, and as such works well for adults remedially striving toward a strong math foundation."

MathScore.com usage during a 2005 pilot program in Northern California resulted in proven effectiveness. Students at all proficiency levels who participated in that pilot program showed impressive improvement on the 2005 California Department of Education Standardized Testing and Reporting (STAR) test. The STAR test results demonstrated an average raw score increase of 39 points, outperforming the control group by 49%. The program showed the increase in scores at all proficiency levels, with some students achieving perfect scores.

MathScore is an Internet-based, measurable, adaptive mathematics practice environment for grades 2-8 that enables self-paced learning. Students can use MathScore.com to do math exercises over the Internet at a pace that keeps them motivated. MathScore is the only math practice environment that adapts to the student, is available with any Internet connection and can provide a never-ending supply of math problems. MathScore's patent-pending math program provides a math practice environment with instantaneous feedback and attainable goals that motivate students to become better at math. Students can access MathScore.com from the school lab, home, or even the local library via the Internet. Teachers can consult system-provided feedback for immediate indication of improvement and course correct as necessary.
