Order Numbers

To do this topic, you need to know Number Comparison.
To review Number Comparison, see here.

Example 1: Least to greatest

Order the numbers from least to greatest.
7,078; 6,703; 6,188 < <

First, compare the thousands: 7,078; 6,703; 6,188
7 is greater than 6 so 7,078 is greater than both 6,703 and 6,188.
7,078 is the greatest number.

Next, compare the hundreds for 6,703 and 6,188: 6,703; 6,188
7 is greater than 1, so 6,703 is greater than 6,188.
6,188 is the least number.

Example 2: Greatest to least

Order the numbers from greatest to least.
8,073; 8,422; 8,826 > >

First, compare the thousands: 8,073; 8,422; 8,826
Since they are all the same, compare the hundreds: 8,073; 8,422; 8,826
8 is greater than both 4 and 0, so 8,826 is the greatest number.
0 is less than both 4 and 8, so 8,073 is the least number.
